Olivier Godin

Pianist and Teacher

Appointed artistic director of the Salle Bourgie at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in June 2022, Olivier Godin has had a brilliant career as a concert pianist, chamber musician, and educator in Canada and abroad.

In recitals, he has collaborated with numerous opera artists such as Frédéric Antoun, Pascale Beaudin, Marc Boucher, Julie Boulianne, Gordon Bintner, Russell Braun, Donna Brown, Thomas Dolié, Étienne Dupuis, Antonio Figueroa, Julie Fuchs, Karina Gauvin, Hélène Guilmette, Wolfgang Holzmair, Laurence Kilsby, Aline Kutan, Dominique Labelle, Marie-Nicole Lemieux, François Le Roux, Michèle Losier, Sylvia Schwartz, and many others.

As a chamber musician, he has performed alongside pianists Michel Béroff, Suzanne Blondin, Myriam Farid, and François Zeitouni, cellist Stéphane Tétreault, as well as oboist Louise Pellerin.

He has appeared in numerous Canadian festivals (Lanaudière, Domaine Forget, Orford, Parry Sound, Sainte-Pétronille, OSM’s Classical Road Trip, Classica), as well as internationally (Palazzetto Bru-Zane in Venice, Wigmore Hall in London, Mexico Lieder Fest in Monterrey, Académie Francis Poulenc in Tours, Albert Roussel Festival in Lille, Tourcoing Lyric Workshop, Johannes-Wasmuth Gesellschaft in Bonn, La Monnaie in Brussels, Lille Opera, Montpellier Opera, Source Song Festival in Minneapolis).

As a répétiteur, he has prepared numerous opera productions and concerts under the direction of renowned conductors such as Raffi Armenian, Franz-Paul Decker, Charles Dutoit, Agnès Grossman, Jacques Lacombe, Simon Leclerc, Kent Nagano, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Jean-Marie Zeitouni.

He has worked with stage directors Alain Gauthier, Jean Herbiet, Titus Holweg, Albert Millaire, Klaus Ortner, Lorraine Pintal, François Racine, and Oriol Tomás.

For over 15 years, he has performed in concert with singer Diane Dufresne and is currently preparing a tour of voice and piano concerts with her to be presented throughout Quebec this fall.

Olivier Godin has recorded around thirty albums acclaimed by the international critics, including complete collections of melodies by Poulenc, Fauré, Duparc, Dutilleux, a disc of melodies and piano works by Jolivet, Rachmaninov’s complete works for two pianos, Brahms’s Liebeslieder Waltzes, and a solo disc of piano works by Émile Pessard (world premiere).

He recently recorded a complete collection of 333 melodies by Jules Massenet (including several unpublished pieces) for ATMA Classique with a dozen renowned singers.

He has given masterclasses for singers and pianists in Canada, the United States, Mexico, France, and Sweden.

Appointed as a professor at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal at the age of 25, Olivier Godin served as head of the opera workshop at this institution for nearly 15 years. He continues to work there as a répétiteur.

He also teaches at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University as a Master Coach and professor of French lyric diction.

He participates in numerous summer academies as a répétiteur and vocal coaching professor for pianists.

He co-founded the International Vocal Academy of Lachine in 2017 with his colleague Richard Turp.

Olivier Godin received the Award with Great Distinction in piano and chamber music from the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, where he studied interpretation under the renowned Raoul Sosa.
