DIVE INTO THE ELEGANCE AND INTRIGUE OF THE VALOIS COURT WITH THE FILM “LA PRINCESSE DE CLÈVES”! DIRECTED IN 1961 BY JEAN COCTEAU, WITH ENCHANTING MUSIC BY GEORGES AURIC, THIS FILM IS AN ADAPTATION OF THE EPONYMOUS NOVEL BY MADAME DE LA FAYETTE.
The passionate love of Henri III for Marie de Clèves serves as the backdrop to this captivating story. Inspired by this tale, the poet Ronsard composed the sonnet “On the Death of Marie” in 1578: “Thus in your first and youthful novelty, When the earth and the sky honored your beauty, The Fates killed you, and ashes you rest. For obsequies receive my tears and my weeping, This vase full of milk, this basket full of flowers, So that alive and dead, your body is only roses.”
After the screening of the film, we invite you to participate in a debate moderated by F. Le Roux and V. Vittoz. This is a unique opportunity to share your impressions and discuss the themes addressed in the film.
We look forward to sharing this moment of erudition and artistic beauty with you at the Cinémas Studio.
