Theme of the Conference

The conference will explore how 20th-century composers were captivated by Ronsard’s poetry, to the extent of setting it to music. Iconic figures such as Francis Poulenc, Albert Roussel, Georges Enesco, and Florent Schmitt all drew inspiration from the verses of the renowned Renaissance poet. Thomas le Colleter will guide us through this harmonious union of poetry and music, highlighting Ronsard’s close affinity with musical art, as evoked in his « Abbrégé de l’Art poétique françois. »
